ALEX STECKLY
OCT 5th - 31ST, 2007
OPENING RECEPTION OCT 5TH
6:00PM - 12:00AM
Portland’s own Alex Steckly Will be having a new solo show at jace gace, opening Friday Oct the 5th. His work is an exciting new take on early formalist aesthetics. Within his large horizontal paintings he has created a system of entwined and overlapping circles that capture subtly in color and seductiveness of form. In his painted circles we see an echo of the night sky, which captures the wonderment of discovery, and the sense of peering through a telescope and seeing mars for the first time. But Steckly has another devise up his sleeve, he has developed a method of capturing his paintings. Like a fly in amber, Steckly captures and suspends his compositions in a thick layer of resin. They become large shiny objects with the surface of still water. Within their subtle intensity they implore to be examined and to even be touched. A must see.
