INNER SPACES
OPENING RECEPTION JAN 4TH
6:00PM - 10:00PM
INNER SPACES, is a painted exploration by artists Collin Janke and Preston Graves that takes us through seemingly recognizable yet unfamiliar territory. Each in their own language, Janke and Graves describe in paint something recognizably tangible, and at the same time their descriptions evades complete understanding. In Graves work he portrays an often murky and ambiguous world. Slightly familiar, and slightly out of full focus, he takes us deeper and deeper into his seemingly subterranean worlds. Janke, in a different approach describes the interior and exterior of a static object. Through repeated attempts of understanding, Janke’s subject matter shifts from figure to ground then back again. It this equivocation that shows us the interchangeability of space in our descriptions and understanding of the perceived world. Both Artists highlight and celebrate this sense ambiguity. It is in this grey area, between knowing and unknowing, that imagination and wonder reside.
