BRYSON GILL - THE MOMENT STILL
NOV 2nd - 28th, 2007
WORKS ON PAPER
OPENING RECEPTION NOV 2ND
6:00PM - 12:00AM
Jace gace is excited and proud to be showing the work of Bay area artist Bryson Gill this November the 2nd – 30th. Generally known for his larger scale paintings, Gill has given us the honor of being the first to show a large group of his works on paper.
It is refreshing to see work that still employs our eyes in a visceral discovery of the landscape. Following in the tradition of early portrait and landscape artists, bay area painter Bryson Gill shows us hidden secrets in our landscape and our relationships to and within them. In viewing one of his drawings there is an odd sense of stillness, giving room for self-reflection. He somehow forces time to stand still, and in this moment we the viewer are forced to acknowledge a sense of wonder and even the momentum that brought it and us into existence. He has tackled and revitalized the old genre of landscape painting by imbuing it with a new psychology. Borrowing from the compositional genius of Hockey and the psychological intensity of Luc Tuymans, Gill shows us that just outside our windows there are still many hidden secrets.
