JOSH ARSENEAU
Feb 1st - 22nd, 2008
OPENING RECEPTION FEB 1ST
6:00PM - 12:00AM
Just when you thought the last chapter of street art was written, Josh Arseneau launches an all out assault on the “image” (and our gallery walls), revaluating reappropriation and the fuzzy haze of spray paint. His vehement and socially charged subject matter proves once again that images, being negative or positive still carry weight and meaning. Like a huge jigsaw puzzle, Arseneau throws out cues and Links, creating a net of meaning, encircling the viewing. And somehow he takes it further than the trappings of socially related “hipster” art. His eye for color and composition pay homage to early American abstraction. At times the walls shimmer with bright intense hues, reminiscent of the work by Katharina Grosse. It this mixture and balance between the pure visceral beauty of color paired with the violence of imagery that propels Arseneau to another level.
